It’s finally time! South Pacific…here we come!

March 29, 2014

Pinch me…it’s FINALLY time to set sail to the South Pacific!  We “checked out” of  Puarta Vallarta, Mexico today. We set sail early tomorrow! Can it be true? Over three decades of dreaming, planning, plotting, dreaming..and we are HERE!

Windcutter is fueled, polished and ready to go!  We are blessed to have Guy Young crew with us (sleep will be sweet with three…we’ll actually get 4 hour shifts!) We’ve spent the last two months prepairing, repairing and provisioning Windcutter for this moment and finally, we are here! Last minute texts, emails and phone calls are at hand and the crew (Craig, Guy and I) are stoked and ready to go!

It will take approximately 21 days to arrive in Hiva Oa, Marqueses Islands …just a day before Easter!

I will journal along the way, and post blogs (and pictures) of our journey! Below is a tentative itinerary…and I stress tentative!

It is subject to change based on wind, weather and our mood! One thing is for sure, we plan to be in Tahiti for the annual Cruisers Festival on July 2nd!

Dreams DO come true! We go with a calm assurance that “all things work for good..” and embrace the future with a calm assurance that we are NOT alone in our venture!

Stay turned…the adventure is on!

Here’s our “tentative itinerary”….

SV Wind Cutter is checking out of Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico (Paradise Village) today on Friday, March 29, 2014  heading Southwest towards the Marquesas Islands in the South Pacific. The trip should take approximately 21 days (weather permitting) with a tentative landfall date of April 20, 2014. Our heading will be approximately 215 magnetic south, southwest ) turning towards Nuka Hiva in the Marquesas Islands. Our first landfall will be Taiohae Bay, Nuka Hiva, in the Marquesas Islands – Lat 8. 55 S and 140.06W. We will stay a few days in Nuka Hiva to rest up before heading south for a couple weeks to explore other islands in the Marquesas such as Hiva Oa, Ua Pou and Fatu Hiva. Around May 7th, we will continue south to the Tuamotu Archipelago Islands where we will island hop until around May 28th when we will sail to Papeete Harbor in Tahiti for the annual Cruisers Polynesian Festival on July 2nd! After a few days in Tahiti, we will continue sailing and spend a couple days on the island of Moorea before exploring the Society Islands (Raiatea), Bora Bora, and the Cook islands. Around July 16th, we will leave French Polynesian and head towards Tonga and Fiji. Dates are flexible and very dependent on weather, conditions and our desire to stay longer in any given spot! We hope to spend amble time in Fiji (maybe even landlock Wind Cutter during the hurricane season) but that is yet to be determined! We do plan to have Wind Cutter (and ourselves) in a safe haven by November, 2014, (the beginning of hurricane season) and hope for an extended stay on Fiji until finally heading for New Zealand. After that…???? That’s our tentative itinerary! Craig and Carol Fleetwood

**We will call the kids on Sundays via Satellite phone

Hugs!

Carol
